LONDON, UK, Jan. 13, 2021 — RMN Classical is excited to announce that “SUNRISE – Italian music for electric guitar, Vol.1” by Sergio Sorrentino, will be released on February 20, 2021. Produced and mastered by Rick Romano for RMN Classical, the album features some of the brightest names of the Italian contemporary-music scene, with works composed by Boccadoro, Sani, Colombo-Taccani, Rebora, Longo, Frega, Talmelli, Simoni and Pavia. The album will be distributed worldwide on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer and all the digital platforms through RMN Music.
After his recent work for Philip Glass, ‘Sunrise’ will be Sorrentino’s next release. First of a 2 volume series dedicated to the contemporary Italian music for electric guitar. The album comprises 14 works newly recorded by Sergio Sorrentino and performed with extreme precision and accuracy.
With this album, the electric guitar becomes narration, giving voice to elegance and transparency. The album is rich of innovative stylistic ideas. An eclectic collection of works, written by each composer using a different compositional style. Some evoking experimental music, or new music, or even advanced contemporary techniques, others leaning towards forgotten traditional Italian folk songs, distant echo of a bygone past, but revised and updated for the modern ears.
An album where Sorrentino’s interpretation is intense and profound, rigorous, and fascinating.
Track after track, clean and crunch sounds, so idiomatic of the instrument, alternate each other, while lines of effects and musical gestures like slides, bends, appoggiature and arpeggi create a counterpoint to iconic phrases and fraseggi.
“In contemporary Italian music, the electric guitar is gaining more and more popularity in the eyes of contemporary composers. For this reason, I felt it would be interesting to offer a new recording project to the audience, a cross-section of the Italian electric repertoire,” Sergio Sorrentino says.
“It was exciting for me to interpret and record for the first time these compositions – many of which to me dedicated – each one of them with a different musical conception and always fascinating and unique,” Sorrentino says.
The album features works by esteemed and renowned Italian composers such as Nicola Sani, Carlo Boccadoro, Marco Simoni, Carla Rebora, Paolo Longo, Marcela Pavia, Giorgio Colombo Taccani, Andrea Talmelli, and Salvatore Frega.
“‘Sunrise’, with its focus on the contemporary Italian scene, immediately sounded to me like the perfect complement to ‘Electric’, an album Sergio and I did together in 2020 and that features Sergio’s performances of pieces written by international composers,” Rick Romano, producer of the album says.
Sorrentino was recently selected by Philip Glass to release a new single for electric guitar, an adaptation of Glass’ work “Orphée’s Bedroom”. His album Dream – American Music for Electric Guitar (Mode Records) was reviewed by Seth Colter Walls (New York Times) as one of the “Week’s Best Classical Music Moments”. RAI Radio Tre described Sorrentino as “…One of the most important contemporary Italian guitarists”.
“I’m honoured to have the opportunity to work again with Sergio, a brilliant and innovative performer and composer – I can only add that more is on the way, but we can’t fully disclose yet,” Romano says.
