Demian Rudel Rey
Demian Rudel Rey (Buenos Aires, Argentine), dedicates its production as a composer to instrumental, mixed, electroacoustic and visual music. He obtained a diploma in classical guitar at the Conservatory “Astor Piazzolla” (Argentina) and in jazz guitar at the EMBA (Escuela de Música de Buenos Aires, Argentina). Then, he finished a Bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Composition at the National University of Arts of Argentina (UNA) where he studied with Santiago Santero (composition) and Carlos Bertazza (conducting).
Subsequently in France, after obtaining a master’s degree at the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon studying with Martín Matalon and Philippe Hurel (composition), Michele Tadini (musical technologies) and Luca Antignani (orchestration), he continued his Artist Diploma at the same conservatory under the tutelage of Jean Geoffroy and Martín Matalon. He also participated in master classes and followed conferences by José Manuel López López, Tristan Murail, Franck Bedrossian, Yann Robin, Raphaël Cendo, Francis Dhomont, Horacio Vaggione, Michael Chion, Hans Tutschku…
Demian has received more than 30 awards in various national and international composition competitions, among which are the TRINAC-UNESCO Award 2019 (Argentina), ÖGZM Crosstalks 2019 (Austria), Prix Musicworks Magazine 2017 (Canada), Fondation Destellos 2017 (Argentina), Matera Intermedia 2016 (Italy), Concours CICEM 2016 (Monaco), The Indie Fest Film Award 2016 (USA) to name but a few.
His works have been performed in more than sixty festivals around the world. His string quartet “Theophilus” has represented Argentina at the 2017 ISCM (World New Music Days) in Canada, while his piece “Endriago” for percussion and electronics (commissioned by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, in partnership with GRAME) was presented at Third IPEA International Percussion. His trio “Tajimamori” will represent Argentina at the 2020 ISCM (World New Music Days) in New Zealand.
Some of the performers who have played his music include Quatuor Tana, Proxima Centauri, Alest Ensemble, Reconsil, Atelier XX-21, CNSMDL’s Orchestra CNSMDL conducted by Roberto Forés Veses, Écoute Ensemble, Emily Carr String Quartet, AuditivVokal Dresden, Quartetto Mitja, Barcelona Modern Ensemble, Interensemble, TROPI, Cuarteto Argentum, Joan Martí-Frasquier, Olivia Martin, Sergio Menozzi and Mauro Tedesco.

Demian Rudel Rey received scholarships from Centre International Nadia et Lili Boulanger, Mécénat Musical de la Société Générale, Mozarteum Argentino, Fondo Nacional de las Artes Argentina and BECAR from the Argentine Cultural Ministry.
His future projects include collaborations with Proxima Centauri, Festival Aspects des Musiques d’Aujourd’hui 2020 de Caen, Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain (EOC), and an Ensemble of CNSMDL students (Artist Diploma project).
