The 5 HAIKU is a hybrid project where sound-art and contemporary composition techniques are mixed with traditional eastern ideas derived from the same Japanese poems and folkloristic instrumental techniques of Guzheng and Guqin.
Each of the Haiku is built on a pentatonic scale and together the 5 Haiku use all the 5 pentatonic scales of the Chinese tradition.

However, even if hidden, the entire chromatic scale is used in combination with modern instrumental techniques. Those techniques are the bridge between the cultures because avant-garde for the westerners but traditional and folkloristic for the Eastern cultures. They are the same techniques, but with a different value.

We find also a solid and structured use of guitar effects and amplification, quintessential of the XXI century, combined with everyday sounds and noises.

The result is a strong comparison between two cultures that cohabit side by side resulting not distant anymore. Those pieces are therefore a recall for a culture that survives and turns; an opportunity to think and reflect on our traditions and about two cultures that become increasingly less distinguishable.
