Alexis Weaver
With a background in classical flute and harp, Alexis had no idea that her musical interest would settle in the world of electroacoustic composition. She enjoys fusing her traditional musical education with the ever-expanding area of music technology, having composed soundtracks to accompany animation, live performance art, Spineless Wonders Out of Place anthology, and notably the 2016 Sydney Fringe Festival drama, Tammy and Kite.
Alexis’ acousmatic works have been chosen for broadcast overseas, most recently in Scotland’s Radiophrenia festival. She was also awarded First Place and People’s Choice Award in the 2016 and 2015 University of Sydney Verge Awards. She is interested in all aspects of music creation, appreciation and distribution, and her aim is to juxtapose the beautiful and the unusual to celebrate the versatility of recorded sound. Her current fascination lies with the multitude of ways to explore limited source material within acousmatic composition.
Alexis is undertaking her honours year at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Australia. Under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Blinkhorn and Dr. Liza Lim, her research encompasses electroacoustic composition and gender representation in the Australian electroacoustic landscape, respectively. She is a strong advocate for greater recognition of female electroacoustic composers, and belongs to the all-female experimental music group, lost+sound.
