Lorenzo Meo


Lorenzo Meo  graduated with a degree in piano from the Conservatory “G.B. Martini” in Bologna with Maria Grazia Noferini, and attended masterclasses as a soloist and chamber musician at important musical institutions in Italy, including the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Accademia Musicale Pescarese and the Accademia Clodiense, studying closely with interpreters like Paul Badura Skoda, Boris Bekhterev, Paolo Bordoni, Konstantin Bogino, Alexei Kornienko, and Alexander Lonquich. Prize winner of several international piano competitions, he received his Master’s degree in chamber music at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome with Rocco Filippini in 2006.

His piano and orchestra debut performances were Rachmaninov’s second concert and Mozart’s K491 concert. As a soloist, he was invited to play with the Orchestra of Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Milano Classica Orchestra, Chioggia Symphony Orchestra, Bologna Conservatory Orchestra, Chioggia String Orchestra, performing in prestigious Italian venues such as the Auditorium Santa Cecilia in Rome, Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Teatro Comunale in Modena, Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, Teatro Flavio Vespasiano in Rieti, Auditorium del Carmine in Parma, l’Auditorium Giovanni Arvedi in Cremona, Fairmount Auditorium and Mystetskyi Arsenal in Kiev. As a chamber musician he performed with various ensembles and interpreters. From 2000 to 2005 he played in an acclaimed duo with violist Antonello Farulli.

Actively engaged in contemporary music performances, he often premiered works written expressly and dedicated to him in several music festivals. An appreciated interpreter of Jaan Raats, he recorded piano works of the Estonian composer in the cds “Boundaries” (2005) and “The E.P.M. Project” (2009). As a specialist in this repertoire, he was invited to hold up the closing concert event for the New Music Festival at the International Art Arsenal in Kiev in 2012, playing piano music of Jaan Raats and ErkkiSven Tuur. His discography includes, beside the previously mentioned works of Raats, music of Hilding Rosenberg, ErkkiSven Tuur, Arnold Schoenberg, and Toru Takemitsu, alongside several recordings of works of XXI century composers.

Beside his career as a performer, he is is also involved as a composer. After his studies at the Conservatoires of Bologna and Ferrara, he enrolled with a MA degree in Electroacoustic Composition from the Conservatoire of Parma with Javier Torres Maldonado. In 2011 he was fnalist of the “International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition” organized by the National Academy of Music (Colorado USA). Composer of chamber and orchestral works, electroacoustic, acousmatic and theatre music, his works are currently performed in Italy and abroad in important festivals and concert venues: Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte in Montepulciano, Teatro Comunale di Bologna (International Competition “2 Agosto”, Bologna), Sala Verdi (Milan Conservatory), Teatro Nuovo (Repubblica di S. Marino), Teatro Duse (Bologna), Strumenti e Musica del Presente (Auditorium Varrone, Rieti), Giornate del Contemporaneo (MUSMA, Matera), Rieti Elettroacustica (Teatro Flavio Vespasiano, Rieti), Viva 21st Century (Princeton University, NJ USA), Journees Numeriques (Cite de la musique et de la danse, Strasbourg FR), London New Wind Festival (Regent Hall, London – UK).
