Kotaro Morikawa
Kotaro Morikawa was born in Akita(Japan) on 30th April 1971. He studied at the Kyoto University of Fine Arts and Music and Composition and Musical Theory at postgraduate level at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
In 1997, his work SYMPTOM (SIGN) won the 2nd prize at the Music Competition of Japan, one of the most prestigious in Japan. The same work was selected as a recommended work in the section under 30 at the International Rostrum of Composers in 1998. In 2002, he won first prize at the founding Percussion Group 72 30th year commemorative composition competition with the work ORBIT, and in 2003 the 2nd prize at the Sogakudo Japan art song composition competitionwith the work MEZAME (AWAKENING). In 2008, he won the prize at the Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition composition with the composition STRING QUARTET. In 2012, he won the 1st prize at the Associazione Culturale “Audire Musica delle Sfere” 1st International Contest for Musical Composition with EROSION.
He is currently an Associate professor at the Mie University.
