Nicola Monopoli


Nicola-Monopoli-2Nicola Monopoli (1991) is an Italian composer.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and New Technologieswith honors and a honorable mention (for his capacity shown in Music Informatics), a Master’s Degree in Electronic Music with honors and he graduated with full marks in Composition from ‘Niccolò Piccinni’ Conservatory in Bari.

He studied with relevant composers of the contemporary and electronic music scene such as Jonathan Cole, Michael Oliva, Francesco Scagliola, Riccardo Santoboni, Gilbert Nouno, Matteo Franceschini, Francesco Maria Paradiso and Massimo Carlentini.

He is the first composer to receive the Artist Diploma in Composition at The Royal College of Music of London supported by a Clifton Parker Award and a scholarship by Giovani Artisti Italiani Association, Project DE.MO./Movin’Up (partner of the Italian Ministry of Culture).

He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in ‘Educational theories and methodologies for art and music didactics’ from Università Europea of Rome and another Postgraduate Diploma in ‘Theory and method of use of multimedia technology in teaching’ from Università ‘Dante Alighieri’ of Reggio Calabria. He also studied Computer Science.

He actually is full time professor of Electroacoustic Music Composition at the Conservatorio di Musica – ‘Umberto Giordano’ of Foggia.
He previously taught Electroacoustic Music Composition at the Conservatorio di Musica – ‘Cesare Pollini’of Padua and Music Technology at the Liceo Musicale ‘Alfredo Casardi’ of Barletta.

His compositions have been performed in Italy, France, Germany, UK, Norway, Greece, Russia, USA, Spain, The Netherlands, Canada, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Cyprus, Mexico, Australia, etc.

He was selected for several festivals: De Montfort University SSSP Conference, Seoul International Computer Music Festival, New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, Stanford University Linux Audio Conference, Tilde New Music Festival, Liverpool Open Circuit Festival, Asian Composer League Conference and Festival, ‘Musiche Nuove’, FIMU, Festival Internacional de Música Electroacústica ‘Punto de Encuentro’, Shanghai Conservatory of Music International Electronic Music Week, MusInfo in Bourges, University of Central Missouri New Music Festival, Electronic Music Festival of the Center of the Cypriot Composers, San Francisco FCM, Di_Stanze, MusLab, etc.

His compositions have been performed in major concert halls: Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall and Recital Hall of The Royal College of Music of London, Sviatoslav Richter Memorial Apartment of Moscow, Chamber Hall of The Moscow Philharmonic Society, Chiesa di Sant’Antonio of Barletta, The Teatro Comunale “Giuseppe Curci” of Barletta, A. Goldenweiser Memorial Apartment of Moscow, Auditorium del Conservatorio ‘Niccolò Piccinni’ of Bari, Leggate Theatre of Liverpool, V.I Vernadsky State Geological Museum of Russian Academy of Sciences of Moscow, Auditorium del Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia of Rome, Auditorium Vallisa of Bari, Elebash Hall of New York, Kammermusiksaal of Hannover, etc.

His music has been broadcast by several radio stations: CKCUFM, WOBC-FM, Radio Taukay, Radio Cemat, Radio Kinetics, CJSR-FM, etc.

In addition his compositions have been selected for listening libraries, installations and internet based project such as Audiograft Jukebox (Oxford Brookes University), Basic.FM, Radiauteur, Streaming Festival, Sonus and ‘Multichannel Listening Library’ of Trondheim (Norway).

He was awarded first prize in Golden Key Composition Competition 2014 (USA), third prize in the Musicworks Magazine Competition 2011 organized by the Canadian magazine Musicworks, received a Mention at the Piars Award 2013 (now Sonic Arts Award) and he was one of the four finalists of The National Prize of The Arts of Electronic Music in 2012 (Acousmatic Category). In addition he was funded by Puglia Sounds for the project Puglia Sounds Export 2015 to engage a series of three concerts in the Australian cities Sydney and Melbourne and he also won the Call for Projects ‘Principi Attivi’, organised by Apulia Region receiving an award of 25000 €  for a contemporary music based annual project.

His work has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing, Ablaze Records, Cimarosa Records, Soundiff, Casa Musicale Eco, Taukay Edizioni, Adalta, Edizioni Musicali Cultura e Musica and RMN Music.

His music has been performed by many international level musicians such as Madeleine Shapiro, Carmine Marcello Rizzi, Lillian Liu, Vitantonio Caroli, Catherine Cheung, Laure Massoni, Alessandro Cazzato and many others.
